About May

Hi! My name is May and my pronouns are they/them and she/her. I am an event professional, project & operations manager, and facilitator based in Toronto. Born in Malaysia, I came to Canada with a full scholarship studying jazz at York University and graduated in 2012. Then I completed my Event and Meeting Management Certificate at George Brown College in 2021. I have spent around 8 years teaching music and planning events with underserved communities.

Currently I am pursuing an MBA in Sustainable Commerce with the University of Guelph’s Lang Business School, expected to graduate in 2025.

I produce events and projects that strengthen and empower the community and make the world a better place. I have a strong background in producing events that put people and planet first, without sacrificing fun!

My skills and experience in event and project management involve strategic planning, financial management, outreach, grant writing, risk management, front of house management and more. While I work hard to make sure projects happen on time and within budget, I also value the process of collaboration and co-creating solutions with stakeholders and the community.

Most recently I was working with Ordna Event Agency producing specialty coffee events in North America and Australia (2021 to 2023). One of my confirmed upcoming projects is the annual Tune In 2024 fundraising event in partnership with Green Majority Radio.

As a music facilitator, I am on the educator roster of VIBE Arts leading music programs for systemically-marginalized communities.

I am a volunteer organizer at Toronto Coffee Community, and a proud member of professional associations such as the Centre for Social Innovation, International Live Events Association (ILEA), Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and Project Management Institute (PMI).
