About May

Hi! My name is May Chook (they/she). I am an event planner, project manager, and arts facilitator based in Toronto. Born in Malaysia, I graduated with a music degree from York University and am currently working towards the Event and Meeting Management Certificate at George Brown College. I have spent around 7 years teaching music and planning grassroots events with underserved communities.

I produce events and projects that strengthen the community, take care of people, and make the world a better place. I would love to work with community artists, creative organizations, social enterprises, non-profits, and community-focused businesses.

My skills and experience involve strategic planning, financial management, program design, outreach, grant and proposal writing, risk management, workshop facilitation, and front of house management. While I work hard to make sure projects happen on time and on budget, I also value the process of collaboration and exploring creative solutions with stakeholders.

Currently I am the Events Coordinator at Hot Docs and Project Manager at Ordna Event Agency. I am also a proud member of ILEA (International Live Events Association).

Thank you for visiting this space. If you are looking for a detail-minded person to organize your production schedule, or need someone to bounce ideas off of, contact me!
