About May

Hi! My name is May Chook (they/she). I am an independent event planner, project manager, and arts facilitator based in Toronto. Born in Malaysia, I graduated with a music degree from York University and am currently working towards the Event and Meeting Management Certificate at George Brown College. I have spent around 7 years teaching music and planning grassroots events with underserved communities.

I produce events and projects that strengthen the community, take care of people, and make the world a better place. Areas and industries that I would love to work with include non-profits, community arts/music, social innovation, community organizing, and hospitality.

My skills and experience involve strategic planning, financial management, program design, outreach, grant and proposal writing, risk management, workshop facilitation, and front of house management. While I work hard to make sure projects happen on time and on budget, I also value the process of collaboration and exploring creative solutions with stakeholders.

Currently I am a Project Manager at Ordna Event Agency producing After Hours with The Barista League, a virtual coffee party series. I am also on the board of JazzinToronto, and a proud member of ILEA (International Live Events Association).
